Camargue – Festival of the abrivado
Festival of the abrivado in Saintes-Maries de la Mer
Camargue is a region marked by a very strong equestrian identity. Few regions in France have this.
Breeders, manadiers and gardians perpetuate an ancestral tradition that exists nowhere else. If you have the opportunity to visit southern France like me this year, you will have the chance to attend one of the most beautiful equestrian festivals in the country: the famous “abrivado”, which means “the arrival “in Provençal.
One of the most beautiful equestrian festivals in the country: the famous “abrivado”
Every year for more than 20 years, on November 10th and 11th, the Abrivado Festival brings together more than 200 gardians and 1000 horses from all over Provence to participate in this Festival on the beaches of Saintes Maries exceptionally open to riders and their mounts this weekend there.

Eleven abrivados follow one another and follow one another. The groups of young people on the beach use everything possible to try to create the crack to escape the bulls. This is an opportunity for the gardians to demonstrate the skills and dexterity of their horses to contain the bulls always ready to escape.
Fusion du plaisir de monter et des traditions de Camargue, cet événement équestre annuel aux Saintes Maries est à l’image de la fougue des coutumes camarguaises et de l’amour que l’on porte ici aux chevaux.
